All ages and talent levels are welcome to partake in a fun, entertaining event that is a bit different each week. Naturally, different players and singers show up each week and some become regular Tuesday night attractions. As the house band, we are musically competent at what we know well and can even stretch our limitations to a point. Stylistically we are lovers of blues, old school 60's and 70's R&B and soul, party tunes. Things that we don't do very well, or flat out won't do are contemporary R&B,hip hop, metal, classic rock, jazz standards, reading of sheet music etc.
Arriving early is suggested if you want to get on stage early. I usually arrive between 7:00 and 7:30 PM and put a sign up sheet out for the players and singers. Sign up as soon as you arrive. Everybody must sign up, or I won't know that you want to participate on stage. Put your name and instrument/singer in the appropriate column. One name per line and print clearly, please. If you came with someone that you want to share the stage with, bracket your names together and I will try to make it happen as you wish. I take the liberty of going down the list with a method of selecting a singer first, then constructing the rest of the positions (guitar, keys, bass, drums, harp or horn) accordingly. Two songs per mini set is the norm. The music starts with a house band set of approximately one hour from 8:00 - 9:00 PM, then the jam will start following the house band's set. The jam usually finishes at 12:00 AM. We will try to fit in late comers, but no guarantees. We sometimes close the list after 11:00 PM, but this is rare.
We ask people to enjoy the others and be supportive, get to know your fellow jammers, treat everybody with respect and don't abuse any equipment. Bring your instruments, drum sticks and effects pedals, but we have amplification on stage, so leave your amps at home. Drums, keys, amps, full PA system and sound man are provided. Please be patient, no prima donnas and crybabies, don't come to play too loud and be cooperative, not competitive. If you are satisfied, or dissatisfied we like to know. I really like being responsible for running this event and some might like my style, some might not, but it's impossible to keep everybody happy. If you come only once and leave dissatisfied, you are missing the point and spirit of the event. Come back again and again and you'll probably find that you are satisfied more times than not and remember it's only a jam session. Most participants are satisfied and do return regularly. Some say the Warmdaddy's jam is set up as more of a showcase, not a jam session, but this is a very popular event and we must budget time well. This also keeps it from becoming one of those free for all jams that nobody really likes. Come, have some fun, enjoy the great southern cuisine and your favorite beverage, let your hair down and if you got no hair, throw off your wig and let your bald head shine!
- Sincerely, your host Randy Lippincott
